Bowling Alley Lawyer Disbarred

By ASSOCIATED PRESS

STUCKEYVILLE, Oh. — Edward Stevens thought mixing his ownership of a bowling alley with his new legal practice would be a quirky way to make a name for himself in this small town. But the Ohio State Bar Association has put the end to this small town lawyer's dream by suspending his law license.

In a ruling released Friday, the Bar Association barred Mr. Stevens from practicing law for one year for "conduct unbecoming a member of the legal profession." The ruling claims that by operating a law practice in a bowling alley, Mr. Stevens "brought shame upon his profession by association with the type of characters who usually populate bowling establishments."

The ruling comes on the heels of a ruling Wednesday by the Ohio State Bowling Alley Owners Association that Mr. Stevens's operation of a law practice within a bowling alley "violates the high standards of bowling alley owners everywhere" and that "by associating the sport of bowling with the legal profession, Mr. Stevens risks causing irreparable harm to the bowling industry."

As a result, the association expelled Mr. Stevens. Because Ohio bowling alleys are regulated by the state, expulsion from the Ohio State Bowling Alley Owners Association means Mr. Stephens must shutter his establishment immediately.

The rest of Friday's disbarments:

  • John Cage of Cage, Fish & Associates LLP for suing God on behalf of a little boy;
  • Michael Kuzak of McKenize, Brackman, Chaney & Kuzak for appearing in open court in a gorilla suit;
  • Stuart Markowitz of McKenzie, Brackman, Chaney & Kuzak for defying a court order to reveal the secret of the Venus Butterfly;
  • Bobby Donnell of Donnell, Young, Dole and Frutt for repeated grandstanding;
  • Hamilton Burger of the District Attorney's office for gross incompetence and his repeated defeats at the hands of defense attorney Perry Mason;
  • Ben Stone of the New York District Attorney's Office for wacky talk;
  • Ally McBeal of Cage, Fish & Associates LLP for repeated delusions stemming from possible drug use
  • Dan Fielding for sexual misconduct
  • Lynn Holt of Holt & Associates for hiring Tony Danza.
