Premiering Tonight: "Moonlight"

Moonlight (9 PT/ET, CBS): The latest entry into the apparently burgeoning Vampire Detective genre, “Moonlight” stars Alex O’Loughlin as Mick St. John. Not a lot is known about the show, since CBS hadn’t made the full premiere episode available to critics as of early September. But the preview can be boiled down to, “Vampire seeks to use his powers for good, not evil … and he’s lonely.” Not helping things is that “Moonlight” has switched executive producers three times and only O’Loughlin remains from the show’s original cast. Joining O’Loughlin are “Veronica Mars” bad boy Jason Dohring as a cutthroat Wall Street vampire, and British beauty Sophia Myles (she was “Doctor Who’s” girl in the fireplace) as O’Loughlin’s mortal love interest. If you found yourself missing “Angel,” well, here it is again. Sort of.

Then again, when you recast your show, reshoot the first episode and slap it on a Friday night hoping nobody will notice, you are perhaps not giving it the most rousing vote of confidence ever recorded.
