Premiering Tonight: "Reaper," "Cane"

Reaper (CW, 9 PT/ET): Sam Oliver’s turning 21, which would usually mean it’s time to party down. But before he can put that I.D. to use, he’s chased by a pack of dogs and seems to manifest superpowers. Oh, and the Devil (Ray Wise) appears to Sam and tells him that his parents sold his soul before he was born. And now, on his 21st birthday, it’s time for the Devil to collect. Armed with a satanic Dustbuster (seriously), Sam and his chubby wisecracking sidekick Sock (Tyler Labine, Jack Black’s attorneys want to speak with you) must do the Devil’s work — in this case, sending escaped demonic souls back to hell.
Worth your time? Definitely. It’s one of the best shows of the fall.

Cane (CBS, 10 ET/PT): The Duque family rules a sugar cane and rum empire. But things aren’t as sweet as you might think. Brother Frank (Nestor Carbonell) wants to sell the family’s sugar holdings to the rival Samuels family. Favored brother-in-law Alex Vega (Jimmy Smits) doesn’t. Patriarch Pancho (Hector Elizando) knows the horrible facts about the two families’ violent past. Family, money, power, sex, business, and violence combine to tell the story of the Duque family and its rivals. Let the internecine jealousies and corporate rivalries commence!
Worth your time? If you like your primetime soaps classy, this is the one for you. I liked it a lot, and I don’t like primetime soaps.
