Fanatic Fiction: Edward R. Murrow
As part of our ongoing attempt to bring the latest in cutting-edge commentary about the radio industry, Radeeo is proud to present a new form of writing, known popularly among avant-garde literary magazines as “Fanatic Serials.” In this experimental form of literature, authors take on the guise of characters from their favorite radio programs, taking the narrative in new — and oft exciting — directions.
Our first submission comes from Mrs. Emma Newfield of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Her piece is entitled “Edward R. Murrow Reports on the London Blitz.”
This… is London. Bombs falling constantly as Hitler’s Luftwaffe continues its relentless air assault against this island capital. The feeling in the bunkers and in the bomb shelters is one of terror stiffened by a sense of firm resolve. And as I see this proud people standing as one against an enemy invader from the sky, one thought keeps coming back to me… my desire to lay you down and make sweet love to you.
Oh, don’t get me wrong, my darling. My newsman’s sense compels me to cover this momentous event in human history, this brave struggle against the forces of totalitarianism. But I think of your intoxicating perfume, your hair, your lips, and then I cannot help but think of throwing you down on my bed at the Royal Londoner and rogering you thoroughly for the next several hours.
Yes, my dearest, let the sound of Göring’s bombs be the background music to our violent love-making. Let me touch you in ways your husband, Harold Newfield, never could imagine. I mean, the man couldn’t find a goddamned clitoris if he had Field Marshall Rommel escort him to one with a full Panzer division. And if he did ever arrive there, he’d find me, pleasuring you, as your shrieks of ecstasy rang out through the dark London sky. Then I would throw back a couple slugs of pre-war gin and have another go at you.
This… is London. And these… are your panties. Good night, and good luck.
This has been the first in a series of Fanatic Serials, published by your friends at Radeeo. Tune in next week for a submission from Miss Jennifer Carruthers of Santa Rosa, California entitled “The Secret Life of Charlie McCarthy.”
